Rémi Planche is a French painter born in 1993. He lives and works near La Rochelle. A member of the Société des Artistes Français and of the Fondation Taylor, he has developed a figurative body of work centred on the human face, presence, and the passage of time.

Rémi Planche paints without brushes. Oil paint is applied and shaped directly with his fingers, creating a physical relationship with the canvas. It is then incised, scratched, and partially removed using metal tools.

The image thus emerges through a constant movement between addition and erasure, construction and disappearance. At the boundary between painting and sculpture, the material does more than depict the subject: it seems to reveal its underlying layers.

The faces of elderly men occupy a central place in his work. Deep wrinkles, beards, gazes, and the texture of the skin become the visible traces of a life. Rémi Planche does not merely seek to reproduce an appearance, but to bring forth a presence, a human depth, something of what the years leave upon a face without ever fully defining it.

Scarification finds its full expressive force in these figures. The marks carved into the paint extend those left by time upon the body. They reveal the vulnerability, dignity, and quiet strength of men whose features seem to carry a memory greater than themselves.

In counterpoint, the young women introduce a different relationship with time. Their smoother, more silent faces evoke not so much innocence as anticipation, becoming, and all that has yet to be inscribed. Their suspended presence creates a dialogue with the male figures: on one side, a life already traversed; on the other, a life that still remains open.

Between youth and old age, appearance and erasure, softness and roughness, Rémi Planche explores what the face reveals and what it withholds. His painting does not seek to tell a specific story. It opens a space for an intimate encounter with time, memory, and the human condition.
